HiToms Win In Asheboro 5-3
from Rich Borland

The HiToms came into todays game 2-1 in the conference after dropping their first game of the season last night to the Florence RedWolves 6-4.

The HiToms started the train early in Asheboro as they came around to score twice in the first on singles from Niemann and Brandenburg along with some passed balls and wild pitches.

Jake Wyrick got the start tonight for the HiToms. He gave up one single in the first but nothing more.

In the second, after allowing a runner on via a dropped 3rd strike and a walk, Jordan Howad made the right decision to go home with the baseball and got the out at the plate. The Copperheads failed to score in the inning.

Evan Edwards continued to show why NC State made the right decision in signing him as he hit a one hopper to the warning track in left field to bring in Brandenburg who walked on four straight balls. The HiToms took the 3-0 in the 3rd.

Vito Friscia put the Copperheads on the board in the home half of the 3rd when he hit a 2 RBI single to right center field to cut the HiTom lead to 1.

Chase Martin entered the game in the fourth, and after a single and a walk, a runner was caught by McKinnon at 3rd. After another walk, a comebacker caught by Martin and a strikeout ended the threat.

The Copperheads earned a run in the 5th to tie the game at 3 on an RBI single from Darren Grabowski after Martin walked the leadoff hitter.

The HiToms retook the lead in the 6th when Ty Adcock hit an RBI single to right field to bring in McKinnon for the 4-3 lead.

Sam Teague drove in Ryne Stanley in the top of the 8th for an insurance run to give the HiToms the 5-3 lead then Erin Baldwin in his HiTom debut, got a 1-2-3 inning via a groundout and 2 strikeouts.

Baldwin came back in to get the six out save in the 9th and did just that! Outside of a walk he was perfect!

The HiToms move to 3-1 in the league and Asheboro drops to 1-3. The HiToms are back at Finch Field tomorrow for a non league game against North Wake at 4pm.
