HiToms Win A Nail Biter 3-2
from Rich Borland with HiToms Baseball

The HiToms were coming off of a much needed win in Asheboro. A 2-1 victory last night seemed to have enough fireworks with a bases loaded wild pitch to give the HiToms the win.

Tonight we saw even more.

Riley Isenhour started the game and gave up 2 runs through 3 innings.

Tyler Wesley pitched the 4th through the 6th inning and did a spectacular job. He only gave up 1 walk and 1 hit while striking out 4.

Austin Chastang gave up 2 hits in the 7th but got out of a jam and did his job.

In the bottom of the 7th, Evan Edwards led off with a single and stole second. He then came around to score on an RBI single off the bat of Kip Brandenberg for the HiToms first run of the ball game.

Nick Silber pitched the 8th and ended the inning on a strike him out throw him out.

Jake Wyrick coming off of a 2 inning losing effort with 6 K’s against the Mustangs on Thursday, threw 3 more strikeouts in the 9th tonight.

In the bottom half, the HiToms were down to their final strike when Kip Brandenberg hit an RBI single to score Brandon Melendez who pinch ran for Edwards after a 4 pitch walk.

Erin Baldwin threw in his 2nd consecutive game in as many days against the Copperheads, and after blowing the save but earning the win at McCrary park, he pitched the 10th and 11th tonight.

The HiToms came up to the plate in the bottom of the 11th looking to finish the job. Jordan Howard reached first on an error from 3rd basemen Caleb Webster.

After a sac bunt off the bat of Jason Allbery, Mason McClellan stepped into the box with Howard just 90 feet away from ending the game.

With an 0 and 2 count, a passed ball was allowed and Howard slid in head first to end the heated battle.

The HiToms move to (5-4) in CPL play, and the Copperheads drop to (1-8).
Erin Baldwin (2-0) gets his second victory in as many nights, and Bryce Tassin drops to (0-1).

The HiToms have the day off tomorrow and travel to Forest City to battle the Owls for a double header Monday and then play 1 at Finch Tuesday vs the same Owl team.
