Big Fourth of July Happy Birthday to Coach Bill Slayton(Southeast Guilford HS/Eastern Guilford HS) and we need to remember our coaches

*****We need to remember our former coaches that taught and served us well….Men like Doug Henderson(Western Guilford HS), C.K. Siler(Southern Guilford HS), Marion Kirby(Page HS) and on this Fourth of July, the “Old Ball Coach”, from Southeast Guilford HS, Bill Slayton…..Don’t forget your football coaches and be sure to remember all of your coaches, from the past….*****

Today, on the 4th of July, we celebrate and honor our nation’s birthday, and the birthday of Coach Bill Slayton(Southeast Guilford HS), as he hits birthday #86….

Coach Slayton is still a hard-working man and these days he works hard to take care of and support his wife Darcy and they are a great team…A Championship Level team and we wish a very Happy Birthday to the ‘Old Coach’, Coach Bill Slayton and we thank him for what he has done in and around our county over the years, as a current member of the Guilford County Sports Hall of Fame….

Highway/Birthday 86 and still with “The Drive” to keep it coming and get it going….Good Job Coach Bill Slayton….

Coach Bill Slayton a former high school football and baseball coach, a former military man who served his country and that makes this day even more important/special, Bill Slayton, from Granite Falls, North Carolina, was born on the 4th of July and he served his country well…

Served us in the military and as a high school teacher and coach…

Coached the Southeast Guilford Falcons to the 1969 NCHSAA 3-A State Baseball Title and took the Falcons to several conference championships in football…Saw that baseball team be led by a young man who later turned pro with the Baltimore Orioles organization, Terry Clapp(now deceased)…Saw his early football teams be led by future FBI agent Don Causey….

He taught Falcons at Southeast Guilford and Wildcats at Eastern Guilford and helped countless kids along the way…Youmans, Modlins, Pannells, Hacketts, the kid that worked hard to get through Eastern Guilford, later played football at Western Carolina and then went on to become a high school principal(Lance Sockwell), and the list goes on and on…

Coach Slayton served his country/nation with dedication in the military and he showed the same dedication during his 30-plus years of service in the Guilford County Schools System…

Born on the Fourth of July, Coach Bill Slayton and we all need to sing a line or two for the ‘Old Coach’ today:
Happy Birthday Coach Bill Slayton….

+++++We also wish good days ahead for Doug Henderson, C.K. Siler and Marion Kirby on this Fourth of July…..+++++
Be sure to look up and put in a good word for your former coaches…..

  1. One of my favorite coaching friends. When I was coaching football and baseball at Western Alamance HS back in the 70’s we were in the same conference as SE and we had some battles with them in all sports. No matter who won Bill was always a gracious winner and loser. Even if he lost he would always have very kind words to say about my players. His teams were always well prepared and very physical. Win or lose you knew that you were always in a battle. I have so many stories that I could tell about him but this post would end up being a book. Happy Birthday Bill and I hope you have many more. You have always been a role model for me since I first met you. When I grow up I want to be just like you. BTW this fall will be my 50th year coaching.
