Gus Mota Announces First Wave of 2017 Recruiting Class

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Greensboro College Head Women’s Soccer Coach Gus Mota announced eight members of his 2017 recruiting class Wednesday.
“We would like to welcome the incoming 2017 women’s soccer class to Greensboro College,” Mota said. “Our staff has had the opportunity to evaluate each player, and each player will bring an exciting attribute to the team. With only two rising seniors and three juniors this year, our staff understood that we were going to have to bring in a strong supporting cast to our young team.
“We’re going to be young this year, with the majority of our strength coming from our freshman and sophomore class. We were young last year, so we are not going to use that as an excuse this year. This class will have a learning curve in preseason, but they will need to mature very quickly if we are going to compete in conference this year. We are looking forward to getting everyone on campus and starting our preseason training.”

PREP: Cashion was a four-year student-athlete at Community School of Davidson where she was a member of the women’s soccer, women’s cross-country and women’s track teams. During her time at CSOD, Cashion won four state championships (2-soccer, 1- cross-country, 1- indoor track) and was a member of the National Honors Society during her junior and senior years. In addition to her school commitments, Cashion was also a member of the Carolina Rapids Club Team. She is the daughter of Jill and Will Cashion, and has one brother, Bayley.
Why Greensboro College? “I chose Greensboro College because I love the campus. I love that you are right on top of the soccer field when you walk out of the dorms and are near the class buildings. I also loved the class sizes and the feeling I get when I am on campus.”

In addition to her work as a member of the soccer team, Catarineau was a four-time ‘A’ Honor Roll member and was also a member of the Alpha Theta Math Honors Society. She is the daughter of Missy and Joe Catarineau, and has two sisters, Kayla and Kinsley.
Why Greensboro College? “I selected Greensboro College because every time I visit campus, I feel comfortable and see a passion present within both the staff and students for their school that I cannot wait to be a part of. I also chose Greensboro College because Coach Mota has built, and is continuing to build, a soccer program that is competitive and has a great sense of camaraderie.”

PREP: Chase was a member of the Corinth Holders High School women’s basketball and women’s soccer teams. During her time a Corinth, Chase was a three-time All-Conference selection and won a N.C. State-3A Regional Championship. Chase is entering Greensboro College after leading Corinth in goals during her senior season, while finishing second in the conference. In addition to her work on the field, Chase was a four-time Academic All-Conference selection, while also being inducted to the National Technical Honors Society. She is the daughter of Myla and Greg Chase, and has one brother, Braxton.
Why Greensboro College? “I chose Greensboro College because I immediately felt welcomed as soon as I stepped foot on campus. The staff was welcoming and made me feel at home. I also chose this as my home for the next four years so that I could further my soccer career. Coach Mota was exactly the type of coach I was looking for. He is very enthusiastic about his job and his team, and he makes everyone feel like family. When I met the team, they took me in right away.”

PREP: Cross was a member of the women’s soccer and women’s track team at Granada Hills Charter High School, while also playing on the LA Premier Soccer Club team. As a member of the Granada Hills soccer team, Cross won two CIF championships, while finishing runner-up her other two years. Cross is also known for her work in the class room as she received the Gold Bearer Seal Scholar Athlete Award, which is given to players who hold between a 3.59 and 3.99 cumulative GPA. She is the daughter of Carla and Ben Cross, and has two sisters, Charlotte and Cordelia.
Why Greensboro College? “I chose Greensboro College because it gives me a home away from home. I am from Southern California and the family atmosphere helped me chose Greensboro College. I love the small school environment because I am able to have more attention placed on my academics from my professors. The women’s soccer team influenced my decision because, on my visit, they made me feel welcomed as if I was already a part of the team.”

She is the daughter of Chloe and Chad Douglas, and has one sister, Dana.
Why Greensboro College? “I decided to go to Greensboro College because of the family feeling that is all round the campus, and especially on the soccer team.”

In addition to her work on the field, Emrich excelled in the classroom as she received the Presidential Scholar Award and was a member of the National Honors Society . She is the daughter of Kelly and Bill Emrich.
