In order to be eligible for the award, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher and have either finished in the NCAA top-96 of their event during the indoor season or advanced to NCAA East Prelims during the outdoor season.

This is the first All-Academic honor for Hames adding to a laundry list of accomplishments received by the Charlotte, N.C., native during her junior campaign. Hames became Elon’s first athlete to qualify and compete at the NCAA Outdoor Championships and earned honorable mention laurels in the discus with her throw of 161′ 10″ (49.32m) at the national meet.

Hames earned her spot to the national meet after finishing 11th at the NCAA East Preliminaries. She broke her own school-record in the event with a throw of 174′ 6″ (53.20m) – the fourth time she had broken her school-record in the discus during the year.

She was also a two-time All-Colonial Athletic Association selection with her runner-up finishes in discus and the shot put at the CAA Championships. She concluded her 2017 regular season with her new school-mark in the shot put of 49’ 1” (14.96m) at the Aggies Last Chance Meet.
