HPU Track and Field Teams, Schnuck Earn USTFCCCA Honors

HIGH POINT — The High Point University men’s and women’s track and field programs were honored as USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced. In addition, Jaime Schnuck (Class of 2017) has been named a USTFCCCA All-Academic Individual.

The Panther men, who had a combined GPA of 3.09, were the only Big South school to be honored. The HPU women, with a combined GPA of 3.39, were joined by conference squads from Gardner-Webb, Radford and Winthrop.

“In our programs, we place an emphasis on academics and it is great to have both teams honored, especially our men for being the only Big South squad to be recognized,” HPU head coach Mike Esposito said. “We are looking forward to putting forth even higher GPAs in the fall.”

To be eligible, a team must have a cumulative team GPA of at least 3.00.

Schnuck was named to the individual list after posting a 3.96 cumulative GPA. She qualified for the NCAA East Preliminaries in the hammer throw and finished 20th. She broke the school record in the event with a mark of 59.43m (195-0) and placed second at the Big South Championships.

To be eligible for the individual list, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and, for the outdoor season, must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championship.
