186 Elon Student-Athletes Earn CAA Commissioner’s Academic Award

RICHMOND, Va. – It was yet another great year in the classroom for Colonial Athletic Association student-athletes, as a total of 2,119 student-athletes received the Commissioner’s Academic Award for the 2016-17 academic year. A total of 186 Elon student-athletes were recognized with this honor.

The CAA Commissioner’s Academic Award gives special recognition to those student-athletes who have distinguished themselves both in the classroom and in the athletic arena. Those student-athletes are members of a team in a sport sponsored by the CAA and have achieved at least a 3.200 grade point average based on semester/quarter performance or cumulative GPA.

Elon had the most, or tied for the most, players represented in men’s basketball (9), men’s soccer (20), women’s soccer (23) and women’s tennis (9).

In addition to the Commissioner’s Academic Award, which does not include football, a total of 41 Phoenix football players earned CAA Football Academic All-Conference honors this year. To be eligible for the CAA Football Academic All-Conference Team, student-athletes must hold a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00.
