RICHMOND, Va. – The Colonial Athletic Association has announced its 18-game 2017-18 men’s basketball league schedule today, Aug. 15, as the Elon University men’s basketball program sets its sights on the final season in Alumni Gym before moving into the Schar Center beginning in 2017-18.
Dates and times are subject to change. Elon will announce its non-conference schedule at a later date.
The Phoenix begins league play with a stretch of four games in nine days. Elon starts conference play at home for the third straight season on Saturday, Dec. 30, when it hosts Drexel. The Phoenix swept the season series in 2016-17 against the Dragons. Two days later, Elon hosts the Towson Tigers on Tuesday, Jan. 2, at Alumni Gym to complete the first two-game set of the league slate.
The Phoenix hits the road for the first time in league play with trips to Northeastern and Hofstra on Friday, Jan. 5 and Sunday, Jan. 7, respectively. Elon then returns to Alumni Gym for two challenging matchups versus two-time reigning CAA Champion UNCW on Thursday, Jan. 11 and 2016-17 conference runner-up College of Charleston on Saturday, Jan. 13.
Awaiting the Phoenix the following week will be a road and home split with the two leagues foes from Virginia. Elon will trek to Harrisonburg, Va., on Thursday, Jan. 18 to face James Madison, followed by a home matchup against the William & Mary Tribe on Saturday, Jan. 20, inside Alumni Gym.
Elon will then face a three-game road swing starting on Thursday, Jan. 25, at Drexel, and Saturday, Jan. 27 at Towson. The three-game swing ends with the first game in week six with a trip to William & Mary on Thursday, Feb. 1.
The Phoenix will then start a three-game home slate on Saturday, Feb. 3, hosting the Delaware Blue Hens. Following a home week hosting Hofstra on Feb. 9 and James Madison on Feb. 11, Elon will begin its second three-game road swing of the conference season on Thursday, Feb. 15, at UNCW.
Following road games on Saturday, Feb. 17 at Delaware and Thursday, Feb. 22 at College of Charleston, the Phoenix will wrap up the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 24, hosting the Northeastern Huskies inside Alumni Gym – the last game ever for the men’s basketball program inside the 67-year old facility.
The 2018 CAA Men’s Basketball Championship is scheduled for March 3-6 at North Charleston Coliseum in North Charleston, S.C. All 10 league institutions qualify in the CAA Men’s Basketball Championship.
