GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College women’s soccer team was picked to finish seventh in the USA South preseason coaches poll, the conference announced Wednesday.

“As of now, based on the polls, we’re voted not to make the conference tournament this year,” Head Coach Gus Mota said. “Our conference continues to get stronger every year and we understand it’s going to be difficult to qualify.

“We are going to have to battle every game, for 90 minutes, to try to walk away with three points. Preseason is underway and we like what we have seen so far. We are going to be a very young team but we are not going to use that as an excuse. We are looking forward to this year.”

The Pride welcome back 16 players for last season’s record setting team, including captains Madison Karch, Samantha Lopez, Devin D’Agostin, Meredith Priest and Kathryn Stevens. Greensboro will also welcome 15 new faces to the squad.

Meredith and Salem finished tied atop the poll with 44 points, while Methodist was picked third.

Coach Mota and his team will get their 2017 season underway at 3 p.m., Sept. 2, when they travel to Warren Wilson College. For more information on Greensboro College women’s soccer, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
