LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Greensboro College men’s golf team opened their 2017-2018 season Saturday with the first round of the 2017 Transylvania Fall Invitational at the par-72 University of Kentucky Big Blue Course.

Saturday’s round, which was originally scheduled for 36 holes, was shortened to 18 holes due to rain and weather remains from Hurricane Harvey. Because of the shortened day, the 54-hole event will now be played as a 36-hole tournament.

Levi Grogan and Grant Powell picked up right where they left off from one season ago as they fired a team-best 2-under par, 70.

“I feels good to get my senior season and the new year started off with a good round,” Grogan stated. “I had a pretty clean scorecard but struggled a little bit in the middle part of the course.”

Luke Grogan sits two strokes behind his Pride teammates after shooting a even-par round.

Scott Campbell (+8, 80) and Austin Coble (+12, 84) are also competing for Greensboro’s team score, while Jacob Neal shot a three-over par 75 as an individual.

“It was a really good starting effort by Levi and Grant,” Head Coach Jim Cantamessa said. “Luke also turned in a solid effort.

“We are going to need a great round tomorrow to help us contend for the title.”

The Pride currently sit in a third place tie at four-over par (292) and trail Guilford College, who shot a tournament-best six-under par, by 10 strokes.

The Pride men will return to the course for the final 18 holes Sunday. For more information on Greensboro College men’s golf, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
