SWANNANOA, N.C. – The Greensboro College women’s soccer team shut out the Owls of Warren Wilson College Saturday to open their 2017 season, 7-0.

Greensboro College got on the board for the first time in 2017 when freshman Hunter Cashion tallied her first collegiate goal in the 20th minute.

The Pride were then able to take a three-goal lead into halftime after Alexis Chase and Meredith Priest each found the back of the net, while Cassandra LaTorre recorded her first collegiate assist.

Greensboro then extended their lead to 4-0 early in the second half when Samantha Whipp beat the Owls keeper for her first goal.

The Pride did not stop there as Angela Niles, Anna Rae Porcelli and Mercedes Fisher capped off the scoring with one goal each to secure the victory.

“I am really proud of my team and it is always good to start out your season with a victory,” Head Coach Gus Mota said. “We were able to take a lot of things from this game that we will continue to work on but we are going to take it one game at a time.”

Greensboro held a 28-1 shot advantage in the contest. Marisa Camuto recorded the victory in goal for Greensboro after playing the first 68 minutes in goal, while Kelsey Emrich closed out the final 22 minutes in goal.

The Pride women will return to action at 2 p.m. Sunday when they host the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College. For more information on Greensboro College women’s soccer, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
