College Volleyball Final – Methodist 3, Guilford 2

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Ashley Beardsley had a match-high 14 kills and Megan Andrews added 13 in host Methodist University’s 3-2 volleyball win over Guilford College Wednesday night. The Monarchs (3-2) rallied for a 25-20, 22-25, 24-26, 25-18, 15-5 nonconference victory.

Guilford (3-2) raced to a 10-1 lead in the third set and held a 23-18 edge before the Monarchs roared back with a 6-0 run. The Quakers staved off a set point and Jessica Sheek clinched the set with one of her match-high 14 kills.
Methodist prevailed in an error-filled fourth set, which set up the decisive fifth frame. With the score tied at 3-3, Andrews served up 11 straight Monarchs’ points, which opened an insurmountable 14-3 margin. Seven Guilford errors aided Methodist’s run.

Andrews added four service aces and 14 digs to her 13 kills. Teammate Cassidy Hayes contributed 12 kills and three blocks. Maggie Harris had 41 assists and 19 digs. The Monarchs’ Annabelle Ronelli picked up a match-high 23 digs.
Sheek hit .407 and had a couple blocks for Guilford. Teammate Christian Ritter finished with 13 kills and 18 digs. Morgan Tompkins also notched a double-double with 12 putaways and 17 digs. Tina Eucker served up a match-high 43 assists, scooped up 15 digs and served up two aces.

Coach Emily Gann’s club hosts a nonleague tri-match Saturday with John Wesley College and Pfeiffer University Saturday (9/9) in the Ragan-Brown Field House.
