BEREA, Ky. – The Greensboro College men’s soccer team opened USA South Athletic Conference play Friday with a 3-0 victory over conference newcomer Berea College.

The two teams played to a scoreless draw until the 44th minute when Samuel Linker struck for his third goal of the season to give Greensboro (2-2) a one-goal lead.

The score then remained the same until Jordy Briceno tallied a goal to extend the Pride lead to two goals before Carlos Barragan scored the game’s final goal in the 69th minute.

“I was happy we came out today and created a lot of chances, especially with dealing with adversity to start the day,” Head Coach Tony Falvino said. “All the boys responded well and looked to play the right way as we had the chance to get a lot of them minutes.

“We now need to fully focus on the game against Guilford Sunday.”

The Pride outshot the Mountaineers 18-1, including a 9-0 edge in shots on goal. Jaime Payamps picked up the shutout victory in goal for Greensboro. Gerardo Peraza, Jared Heller and Barragan each had one assist.

The Greensboro men will return to action at 2 p.m. Sunday when they travel to crosstown rival Guilford College. For more information on Greensboro College men’s soccer, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
