Koniaev Advances to Finals in Singles and Doubles at Elon Women’s Tennis Fall Invitational

ELON, N.C. – Sophomore Alex Koniaev advanced to the finals of the Gold Singles draw and the Gold Doubles draw with Kirsten Ward to highlight Elon University women’s tennis at the Elon Fall Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 16, at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.

RESULTS

HIGHLIGHTS
In singles action, Koniaev first defeated Jamie Breunig of Longwood, 6-1, 6-1, in the quarterfinals before beating Defne Olcay of Emory, 6-1, 6-2, in the semifinals to earn a trip to the Gold Singles draw finals.

Koniaev also advanced to the championship match of the Gold Doubles draw with Ward, earning a 8-5 win over Swope and Machado of Appalachian State.

Additionally for the Phoenix, Mia Wallace was able to advance to the semifinals of the Phoenix Singles draw, defeating Katie Chang of Emory, 6-4, 6-2. However, she would fall in the semifinals in a tight 6-4, 6-3 defeat to UNCG’s Brianna Gomez.

Maria Paraja teamed up with Wallace to advance in the consolation bracket of the Phoenix Doubles draw, winning 8-4 against Anglesjoe and Gaskins of Appalachian State.
