ELON, N.C. – Neal Port of the Elon University men’s tennis team claimed the Powell Singles title Sunday, Sept. 24, on the final day of the 2017 Elon Invitational at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.

Port defeated East Carolina’s Will Bissett in straight sets, winning 6-3, 6-4. Throughout the weekend, the redshirt senior won a trio of three-set matches over opponents from UNCG, North Carolina A&T and College of Charleston before the straight-set win over Bissett Sunday to win the title.

Elsewhere, Salvador Mijares won the consolation side of the Maroon Singles draws, defeating Damon Roberts of James Madison by the score of 6-3, 6-4. Mijares lost his opening match to Marcus Vidgren of UNCG, but rattled off three wins in a row in the consolation draw to close the weekend.
