Elon Announces Men’s Hoops Non-Conference Slate for Alumni Gym’s Final Season

ELON, N.C. – Elon University men’s basketball head coach Matt Matheny announced the team’s full 2017-18 schedule today, Sept. 29. Season tickets are on sale now, as this season marks the final year for Elon’s historic Alumni Gym, which opened its doors in 1950.

Season tickets are the only way to guarantee a seat in Alumni Gym’s final year. To purchase tickets, order online or contact the Elon Ticket Office today at 336-278-6750.

“We’re excited about the challenges of our non-conference schedule,” said Matheny. “The schedule is structured in a way to get us battle tested as we head into CAA play in late December. We are looking forward to playing the last season in historic Alumni Gym, which has become an exciting home court atmosphere.”

Hosting South Florida, Radford and Saint Peter’s, road matchups at Boston University, Canisius, Indiana State and UNCG, and the Black & Gold Shootout in Milwaukee highlight the non-conference slate.

After playing host to Randolph College on Wednesday, Nov. 1, for an exhibition contest, the Phoenix opens the season inside Cameron Indoor Stadium against the Duke Blue Devils for the 30th all-time matchup between the two teams on Friday, Nov. 10. The next day, Elon welcomes William Peace in its home opener on Nov. 11.

Three days later, the maroon and gold makes a trip to Greenville, S.C., to face reigning Southern Conference regular season co-champion Furman on Tuesday, Nov. 14.

The Phoenix then heads to Milwaukee, Nov. 17-19, to compete in the Black & Gold Shootout hosted by Milwaukee. Elon will open the tournament on Friday, Nov. 17, against Florida International, followed by Concordia Saint-Paul on Saturday, Nov. 18. The Phoenix will then face Milwaukee on Sunday, Nov. 19, to close out the tournament.

Elon returns to Alumni Gym to play three consecutive games inside the friendly confines. The Phoenix hosts Radford on Wednesday, Nov. 22, American Athletic Conference foe South Florida on Thursday, Nov. 30, and 2017 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT) champion, Saint Peter’s on Saturday, Dec. 2, to wrap up the home portion of its the non-conference schedule.

The maroon and gold hits the road for the final four games on the non-conference schedule, opening its four game swing at Triad rival UNCG on Thursday, Dec. 7. Last season, the Spartans were crowned Southern Conference regular season co-champions and represented the conference in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) in 2016-17.

Elon will then head north to begin a slew of three games in six days to end non-conference action. The Phoenix treks to Boston to face Patriot League regular-season runner up, Boston University on Sunday, Dec. 17, to begin the stretch. A trek to Buffalo will follow as the Phoenix battle Canisius on Tuesday, Dec. 19. The four game road trip and full non-conference slate concludes with a matchup on Friday, Dec. 22, at Indiana State, members of the Missouri Valley Conference.
