SAPPHIRE, N.C. – William Harwood posted a two under-par first round before the second round was suspended due to darkness and the Elon University men’s golf team finds itself in second place after the first 18 holes of the Hummingbird Intercollegiate on Monday, Oct. 2, at the Country Club of Sapphire Valley.
Harwood is in a tie for ninth individually after draining three birdies and an eagle on the 14th hole to score a two-under 69 in the first round. The Phoenix as a team made a combined three eagles and 15 birdies after the first 18 holes. Elon is currently in second place behind first place Gardner-Webb.
HIGHLIGHTS
In addition to Harwood’s two-under par performance, Jake Leavitt and Dustin Blank each scored a one over-par 72 during round one and are tied for 20th individually.
Charlie May, who drained an eagle on the par-four ninth, is tied for 26th individually with teammate Philip Loeb, who is competing as an individual for the Phoenix.
Additionally for the Phoenix, Quade Lukes and Patrick Frodigh each shot a four over-par 75 and are each tied for 39th individually in the Elon lineup. Rounding out Elon’s competitors is William Frodigh, who completed his first career round. He is in a tied for 80th after the first round of action. The Frodigh brothers are making their first-career appearances at Elon in the Hummingbird Intercollegiate.
UP NEXT
The Phoenix will complete the second round starting at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow morning, followed by the final round at the Country Club of Sapphire Valley.
