GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College men’s soccer team rallied from an early deficit to defeat the Falcons Pfeiffer University Wednesday, 3-2.

“It was good to get a win at home today on homecoming, especially with Jaime Payamps being named Homecoming King and Ryan Mule and Cole Watkins being recognized as well for making the homecoming court,” Head Coach Tony Falvino said.

The Falcons got on the board first in the 17th minute to take a 1-0 lead but Jordy Briceno was able to even the score for the Pride in the 34th minute off an assist from Carlos Barragan.

The two team then played to a draw for the next 15 minutes until Ryan Mule scored his first goal of the season to put the Pride on top 2-1.

Following Mule’s goal, Barragan extended the Greensboro advantage to two goals with his ninth goal of the season but the Falcons were able to cut the advantage in half with 7 minutes to play.

Greensboro was then able to keep Pfeiffer off the board for the remainder of the game to secure the one-goal victory.

“It thought we started well and controlled possession early and was able to create a lot of chances even though we were not able to capitalize on them,” Falvino added. “We had several times we lost our concentration and they took advantage of that.

“It was great to see the boys respond well and come back with three unanswered goals. The boys showed grit to finish the game as Pfeiffer looked to tie the game up. We need to build on this as we move into another two conference matches this weekend, while also honoring our seniors.”

Greensboro outshot the Falcons 18-9 and held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks. Jaime Payamps recorded four saves in the victory.

The Pride men will return to action at 4 p.m. Saturday when they host Brevard College. For more information on Greensboro College men’s soccer, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
