Greensboro, N.C.– The Greensboro College women’s soccer team defeated the North Carolina Wesleyan Battling Bishops on senior day Sunday, 2-1.

The Battling Bishops scored the first goal in the 14th minute, but the Pride answered back almost immediately when Samantha Whipp went unassisted to bend the ball into the top right corner of the goal.

The game then remained tied for the next 45 minutes before Devin D’Agostin placed a sliding shot in the top of the goal off an assist from Mercedes Fisher.

The Bishops tried to find the equalizer over the final 29 minutes, but Marissa Camuto and the Pride backline was able to withstand the pressure to secure the one-goal victory. “It was a great win for the girls today on senior day,” head coach Gus Mota said. “We needed to get three points and we set out to do it. It was a sloppy first half, but we bounced back with a better second half.

We are looking forward to going back to work on Tuesday and now William Peace is the only game we are thinking about.”

The Greensboro College women’s soccer team will return to action Wednesday at 7 p.m. when they travel to William Peace University. For more information on Greensboro College men’s soccer, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
