College Men’s Soccer Final: Lynchburg 4, Guilford 0

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Sherman Mitchell scored one goal and passed one assist as Lynchburg College defeated visiting Guilford, 4-0, on Wednesday night.

The Hornets moved to 13-1-1 and lead the Old Dominion Athletic Conference with a 7-0 record. The Quakers dropped to 2-14 and 2-5 in conference play.

Michael McShane recorded 12 saves to lead the Quakers.

Jack Ashby got LC on the scoreboard in the fifth minute. Mitchell earned the assist after Ashby finished a rebound into an open net.

Mitchell scored his goal at the 27:12 mark. Abibi Osman was credited with the helper after Mitchell took a touch and shot high to the top right. The score remained 2-0 at halftime.

Nate Berning scored off a pass from Fredy Flores at 49:29. Berning controlled a cross and finished low to the corner.

In the 64th minute, Jon Mackey notched a goal off a pass from Clay Van Gieson. Mackey had a one-touch finish on Van Gieson’s cross.

Lynchburg led in shots (29-4) and corner kicks (7-2). Ricky Aguilar had all of the Quakers’ shots in the contest.

Guilford next plays at Washington & Lee on Saturday (10/21). Match time is 1 p.m.
