GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College’s women’s swimming team opened the dual-meet portion of its schedule Saturday in a four-team Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) meet hosted by Greensboro College. The Quakers lost to the host Pride, 103-62. Bridgewater College, which went 3-0, scored a 206-34 triumph over Guilford, and Roanoke College downed the Quakers, 181-37.
Guilford’s top individual effort came from sophomore Carolyn O’Halloran, who placed second among 19 contestants in the 50-yard freestyle in 27.67 seconds. She turned in a fourth-place time in the 10-swimmer 100 freestyle (1:02.01) and took fifth among eight swimmers in the 200 freestyle in 2:16.13.
Senior Isabel Gutierrez turned in a fourth-place time in the six-swimmer 200 breaststroke (3:05.00) and was fifth of nine in the 100 breaststroke (1:24.5).
The Quakers’ 200 freestyle team of O’Halloran, Gutierrez, Courtney Packer and Katherine Kane placed fifth in 2:17.94.
Coach Ashley Cox’s Quakers (0-3, 0-3 ODAC) return to action next Saturday (10/28) at Greensboro College where they will face the Pride, Randolph College and the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
