GREENSBORO, N.C. – Kyle Frankel of Elon University men’s tennis was named the Singles Flight winner and the duo of Felipe Osses-Konig and Neal Port earned the Double Flight title of the Spartan Fall Invitational at UNCG this weekend as the team closed out its 2017 fall slate.
THE RUNDOWN
Playing against opponents from UNCG, Furman, East Carolina and UNC Asheville, Elon posted an overall singles record of 13-6 and a doubles record of 6-6 on the weekend. Frankel earned a 6-1, 7-6 (4) victory over Olly Cull of UNC Asheville, a 6-4, 6-4 win over Oliver Palmer of UNCG and a 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (3) win over ECU’s Vlad Anghel to claim the title.
Osses-Konig and Camilo Ponce also had solid singles weekends. Osses-Konig defeated James Massie of UNC Asheville 6-3, 6-3, Ian Melnik of UNCG 6-4, 6-4 and Austin Allen of East Carolina 6-1, 6-4. Ponce topped Andrew Sanai of UNC Asheville 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (11), Daniel Hammarstedt of UNCG 6-4, 6-4 and Alex Steryous of Furman 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles action, Osses-Konig and Port topped East Carolina’s Kasey Countee and Freddie McGeehan by the score of 8-6 and defeated UNC Asheville’s Cull and Ed Colclough 8-0. They finished the weekend in a battle against Melnik and Jack Burkill of UNCG, but fell 8-7 (5).

With the fall season in the books, Elon will turn its attention to the 2018 spring campaign. The schedule for the Phoenix will be announced in the coming months.
