High Point Women’s Soccer Earns No. 1 Seed in Big South Tournament

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Big South announced on Tuesday night that the High Point University women’s soccer team has been awarded the No. 1 seed for the upcoming Big South Tournament. The Panthers will host No. 8 seed Winthrop on Friday night at 7 p.m.

High Point was declared a co-champion with Liberty after both teams finished the conference season 7-1-1. The teams tied in their only matchup so the conference crown was determined via tiebreaker. The next two tiebreaker procedures (point system and goals against) still did not yield an advantage. The tiebreaker process reached the fifth component — goals for minus goals against. HPU posted a plus-7 goal differential in league games (11-4), compared to LU’s total of plus-five (9-4).

The Panthers will be the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament for the third time in program history, also doing so in 2012 and 2016. HPU is in search of its first trip to the NCAA tournament since 2014 and sixth overall, which would tie for the most championship in Big South history.

All four quarterfinals will be held at the higher seed on Friday or Saturday. The semifinals and finals will be held at Bryan Park in Greensboro, N.C. on Friday, Nov. 3 and Sunday, Nov. 5, respectively. The full conference tournament schedule is below.
