College Women’s Soccer Final: Eastern Mennonite 1, Guilford 0

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Liz Huffman scored in the 86th minute as Eastern Mennonite defeated Guilford College, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon.

Rachel Sauder earned the assist on the scoring play. She dribbled through three Quaker defenders before centering the ball to Huffman, who scored from close range in front of the GC net.

The defeat knocked the Quakers out of the upcoming Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament and spoiled GC’s senior day. Guilford ends its year at 6-9-1 and 3-6-1 in the ODAC. The Royals moved to 7-8-1 and 5-5 in league play.

The match was tied at 0-0 at halftime. EMU led in shots, 9-3, in the first 45 minutes.

Cheyenne Grim notched eight saves for Guilford. Winning goalkeeper Leah Wenger made five saves.

Eastern Mennonite led in shots (17-8) and both teams took four corner kicks.

Prior to the match, Guilford recognized Morgan Henderson, the lone senior on the club. She had one shot in the contest and closed the year as the Quakers’ leading scorer (seven goals, two assists).
