Elon Women’s Basketball Starts 2017-18 Season with USA Today Coaches Poll Recognition

ELON, N.C. – Elon University women’s basketball received one vote in the first USA TODAY Coaches Poll of the season. The vote ties Elon for No. 49 in the nation with Villanova and Boise State.

At season’s end in 2016-17, Elon received two votes in the final poll after getting as many as four entering the postseason. It entered the receiving votes list for the first time in program history on Feb. 28, 2017, when it received one vote before claiming the 2016-17 regular season CAA title a day later with an 82-48 win over UNCW.

Earlier this week, the Phoenix checked in at No. 10 in the preseason CollegeInsider.com Women’s Mid-Major poll. It closed the 2016-17 season ranked No. 3 in the poll.

Elon will host Anderson on Sunday, Nov. 5, in its lone preseason exhibition of the 2017-18 campaign. Opening tip is set for 5:30 p.m. in Alumni Gym. The game follows the Elon volleyball game against Northeastern at 2 p.m.
