LYNCHBURG, Va. – Darus Maddox scored a game-high 25 points on nine-of-15 shooting to lead the Greensboro College men’s basketball team past the Wildcats of Randolph College Tuesday, 96-82.

After trading baskets over the first three minutes of the game, Greensboro (1-1) went on a 7-0 run to take a 14-7 lead. Trey Smith accounted for five of the points, while Darus Maddox added the final two.

Randolph then climbed back to within four points three minutes later before the Pride was able to string together a 9-2 run, that lasted just over two minutes, to take their largest lead of the half at 27-19.

Following the Greensboro run, the Wildcats used a run of their own to pull within four points once again at 31-27 before Kyle Riddley hit from long range to push the Greensboro advantage back to seven points.

Over the final seven minutes of the half, Greensboro led by as many as eight points before taking a 50-43 lead into halftime.

After intermission, the Greensboro offense came to life again.

Greensboro opened the first six minutes of the second half on a 13-5 run to take a 63-48 lead. Corey Burnette, Demetrius Tilley, Carmoni Marks(Western Guilford High School), Justin Minnis and Smith each had two points during the spurt, while Maddox hit his second three-pointer of the afternoon.

Over the next three minutes, the Pride was able to establish their largest lead of the contest at 71-52, following an old fashion three-point play by Marks, before the Wildcats came roaring back to pull within four points with 8:31 left in the contest.

However, the Pride was able to withstand the Randolph pressure down the stretch and pull away late for the 14-point victory.

“It is very hard to win and it’s even harder to win on the road,” Head Coach Bryan Galuski said. “It is early in the season and we certainly have things to improve on, but I am very proud of how our team completed the game.”

Smith joined Maddox in double figures with 17 points, while Marks finished with 14 points. Riddley, who had 11 points on the night, led Greensboro with six rebounds.

The Pride men will return to action at 2 p.m. Sunday when they travel to Roanoke College. For more information on Greensboro College men’s basketball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
