Women’s College Basketball Final: Guilford 63, Meredith 28

RALEIGH, N.C. – Miracle Walters scored a game-high 17 points as Guilford College won at Meredith College, 63-28, on Monday night. The Quakers used a dominant second half en route to the win.

GC improved to 3-1. The Avenging Angels dropped to 0-5. The 28 points allowed is the fewest since Guilford defeated Shenandoah, 65-35, on Feb. 7, 2015.

Guilford led 21-16 at halftime. The visitors, however, exploded in the third quarter by outscoring the Avenging Angels 25-4. The Quakers kept the momentum in the final period by outscoring Meredith, 17-9, in the final 10 minutes.

GC shot 42-percent (27-64) and the Angels were 9-of-54 shooting (17-percent). Guilford won the battle of the boards, 44-39. The Quakers forced 23 turnovers and had just 14 miscues. Meredith trailed in points off turnovers, 27-0.

Walters, who also matched her career-best for points, was 8-of-15 shooting. Lauren Ramsey grabbed a game-best 10 rebounds to go along with her eight points. Monell Dunlap came off the bench to add seven points for GC.

Chandler Hines tallied a team-high eight points for the Avenging Angels. She was 3-of-14 shooting. Kirstie King contributed six points and nine rebounds for the home club.

The Quakers host Hollins University on Friday (11/29). The Old Dominion Athletic Conference opener begins at 7:30 p.m.
