ELON, N.C. – Elon University men’s tennis has added a Jan. 23 match at Wake Forest to its 2018 schedule, the team announced Friday, Dec. 22.
Elon’s 2018 slate was announced earlier this month. The Phoenix will now battle two potential preseason Top 25 teams in just a matter of three days in January, as it will now head to Wake Forest after taking on South Carolina at Davidson on Jan. 20.
The Jan. 23 match is set for 7 p.m. and will be the fifth meeting between Elon and Wake Forest since the 2000 season. It will follow Wake Forest’s 3:30 p.m. match against Coastal Carolina earlier in the day. The Demon Deacons have won each of the four previous meetings against Elon, all of which have come in Winston-Salem, N.C. It reached the Elite Eight last season after going to the Sweet 16 each of the previous two seasons. Wake Forest is set to host the 2018 NCAA Championships in May.
Elon’s spring campaign is scheduled to get underway on Saturday, Jan. 13, with a home doubleheader at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center against North Carolina A&T and North Carolina Wesleyan.
