Elon’s Munford Claims First CAA WBB Weekly Honor

RICHMOND, Va. – Elon University women’s basketball freshman Saadia Munford was tabbed the CAA’s Rookie of the Week on Tuesday, Dec. 26. The honor is Munford’s first conference award.

In Elon’s 78-50 victory over NC Central last week, Munford scored six points but had a career-best 10 assists to go with three steals. The Atlanta native scored or contributed on 28 of Elon’s points in the game, scoring six of her own and assisting on 22 others. With double-figure assists, Munford became the sixth CAA player to reach double-figure helpers in a game this season. Elon has three of the CAA’s six double-figure assisters this season with Shay Burnettrecording a pair against Hampton and Coker.

Elon will return to the court Friday, Dec. 29, when it hosts UNCW to open CAA play. The contest closes a three-game December homestand for the Phoenix. Tipoff against the Seahawks is set for 7 p.m. in Alumni Gym. UNCW is led by former Elon head coach Karen Barefoot.
