College Women’s Basketball Final: Guilford 66, Roanoke 47

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Miracle Walters scored a game and career-high 24 points and ignited a big second half as Guilford College defeated visiting Roanoke, 66-47, on Wednesday night. The Quakers improved to 9-1 and 3-0 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action. The Maroons dropped to 4-18, 1-2.

The home team held a 32-30 lead at halftime. Guilford then outscored RC 20-8 in the third quarter and 14-9 in the final period. Walters had 19 of her points in the second half. She was 9-15 shooting and made all six of her free throws.

Lauren Ramsey added 18 points and 13 rebounds and five assists for the Quakers. Essence Abraham contributed a season-best 16 points. She shot 6-9 and made four three-point baskets for GC.

For Roanoke, Molly Hassell tallied 14 points. She was 5-12 from the field and made four three-pointers.

Guilford shot 47-percent (22-57) and held the Maroons to 17-52 shooting (33-percent). The Quakers defense held Roanoke to 21-percent (5-24) shooting in the second half and forced 21 RC turnovers. Guilford had a slight edge in rebounds (34-33) and committed 16 turnovers.

GC made 5-10 free throws while the Maroons converted just six of 20 from the charity stripe.

The Quakers play at Washington and Lee on Friday (1/5). Game time is 5 p.m.
