EAST FORSYTH (10-3, 1-0): Connor Sparrow 21, Shemar Watkins 17, Tanis Samuels 11, AJ Hall 9, Hairston 6, Mahaffey 4, Brintley 2, Jones 2, Wiley 2.

WEST FORSYTH (5-9, 0-1): Ryan Ayers 19, Jaylon McMillan 11, Uloko 9, Johnson 6, Mitchell 4, Buckner 3.

East Forsyth’s withering defense wore down West Forsyth & forced the visiting Titans into 25 turnovers enroute to a 74-52 win to open Central Piedmont 4A Conference play. West led by as many as 11 points (21-10) early in the second quarter, making eight of their first 10 shots.

But the Eagles responded by holding their visitors scoreless for the next five minutes to seize the lead for good (25-23) with 2:30 remaining in the first half. After a third quarter in which West made it’s only rally of the half to cut their deficit to four (39-35), East’s deep roster implemented waves of pressure defense throughout the final period.

The Eagles scored 30 of the game’s last 40 points including only one field goal by the Titans in the last four minutes when the Eagles, now 10-3, closed to their biggest margin of the game (22 points) at the finish.

East Forsyth Center Connor Sparrow led all scorers with 21 points, grabbed a game-high six rebounds & limited Titans’ 6-8 Center Ben Uloko to nine points & five rebounds. Shemar Watkins added 17 points & was one of three Eagles contributing four rebounds each (Tanis Samuels, Tyren Hairston).

AJ Hall scored nine points, had three assists & three rebounds & was a defensive menace for East against the Titans, now 5-9. Ryan Ayers led the visitors with 19 points. East Forsyth goes on the road next week for Central Piedmont 4A Conference games at Glenn & Reagan.
