Pride Women Overcome First Half Deficit To Defeat Battling Bishops

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C.-The Greensboro College women’s basketball team routed the Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan College Saturday, 68-65.

The Bishops outscored the Pride women in the first half, 33-26, but Greensboro refused to fold.

Wesleyan started out the third period with an 18-7 run, but the Pride women answered back with 21-7 run that carried into the fourth period. With just 4:57 showing on the clock, Greensboro trailed, 59-54.

Sabria Joseph helped the Pride jump-start a 11-4 run that ended with a layup from senior Kamerin Williams. With Williams’ basket, Greensboro had tied the game at 65-65.

Down the stretch, senior Kamerin Williams was able to knock down three of her four free throws to help the Pride women capture their 12th win of the season.

“We put forth our best efforts into trying to cut the first half deficit,” Williams said.” We really had to dig within to try to come back.

“I think it was a great team win to come back and fight through all four periods of basketball. We are looking forward to going into the remainder of the season with some momentum.”

Williams lead Greensboro with 16 points, 12 rebounds and two steals. Laprecious England tallied 13 points and eight assists, while Rasheika Gregory (11) and Katie Lewis(Southeast Guilford HS) (10) also scored in double digits.
