Competing in its second meet in as many weekends at Liberty University, the Phoenix DMR quartet of Chelsea Smith, Emily Smith, Natacha Savioz and newcomer Gabriela Varisco de Oliveira broke the previous program-best mark of 12:07.82 from last season as the group clocked a time of 12:03.27.

That time was good for fourth overall in the event, just a second off from a top-three finish. The group also qualified for the 2018 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Indoor Championships with its performance. It is the second relay team to qualify for the ECACs for the Phoenix. The maroon and gold’s 4×800-meter relay team qualified earlier during the indoor season at the VMI Keydet Invitational.

Select other members of the Phoenix competed at the Camel City Invitational at the JDL Fast Track Complex. Bryanna Hames set a new personal-record in the weight throw as the senior had a heave of 50′ 4.75″ (15.36m) – tying for fifth on the program’s all-time performance list. She finished 15th overall.
