Last Time Out
Elon is coming off a successful weekend at the Camel City Invitational and at the Darius Dixon Invitational. The Phoenix saw a couple of school-records fall at the two meets and a few athletes set personal-marks while qualifying for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Indoor Championships.

On Friday, Feb. 2, at the Darius Dixon Invitational, the Phoenix’s distance medley set a new school-record at the meet as the quartet of Chelsea Smith, Emily Smith, Natacha Savioz and newcomer Gabriela Varisco de Oliveira broke the previous program-best mark of 12:07.82 from last season as the group clocked a time of 12:03.27. That was good for fourth overall as the group qualified for the ECACs.

A day later, Feb. 3, at the Camel City Invitational, senior Bryanna Hames took the top spot in the indoor shot put as the Charlotte, N.C., native had a toss of 49′ 7.75″ (15.13m) – breaking Charlise Morgan’s four-year record of 48′ 6″ (14.78m) – and was third overall in the event. Hames also qualified for the ECACs. Hames also had set a new personal-record in the weight throw with her mark of 50′ 4.75″ (15.36m) – tying for fifth on the program’s all-time performance list. She finished 15th overall.

At the Darius Dixon Invitational at Liberty University, junior Katie Arbogast had a top-10 finish in the 400-meters with her personal-best time of 57.95. Melody Burke also set a new personal-record in the triple jump with her leap of 38′ 3.50″ (11.67m) – finishing seventh overall.
