Women’s Basketball Blows Past Spirits

GREENSBORO, N.C.– The Greensboro College women’s basketball team dominated the Spirits of Salem College Wednesday, 76-45.

The Pride broke out a 12-4 run in the first five minutes of the contest. Laprecious England was the first up on the board for the Pride as she recorded a layup and followed it up with two assists. Both Katie Lewis and Rasheika Gregory dropped a three-point basket, while Shaniah Haynes ended the run with a jumper.

Going into the second period, the Pride lead 18-14.

Over the second period, Greensboro worked together to bust out a 22-8 run to go into halftime with a 40-24 lead. During the run, the Pride forced eight turnovers and shot 63 percent from the field.

Greensboro kept up their fast-paced offense in the third period to extend their lead to 58-33 going into the final period of the contest.

The Pride then went on to secure the win after both Lauren Jenkins and Haynes lead the team over the last 10 minutes with four points apiece.

Lewis(Southeast Guilford High School) recorded a game-high 17 points, while Jenkins dropped 16 points of her own and racked up a game-high three blocks. Haynes also scored in double figures with 11 points and Gregory handed out a game-high 5 assists.
