Elon Women’s Track Opens Outdoor Season at 49er Classic

ELON, N.C. – Three athletes in the top-five of the discus throw including medalist honors for senior Bryanna Hames highlighted the 2018 outdoor opener for the Elon University women’s track and field team at the 49er Classic on Friday, March 16, at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Center.

RESULTS

Coming off becoming the first Phoenix athlete to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships last season in the discus, Hames picked up where she left off in her outdoor opener. The Charlotte, N.C., native had a throw of 155′ 8″ (47.45m) to win the event for the Phoenix.

Bre’anna Warren was third in the discus with her mark of 155′ 4″ (47.34m) while sophomore Skylar Barthelmes was fifth with her toss of 148′ 3″ (45.20m).

Rachael Wesolowski earned a top-five finish in the 10,000-meters with her time of 38:12.37. Teammate Sami King was also in the top-10 of the race with her time of 38:19.73.

In the 400-meters, Katie Arbogast was the top finisher for the Phoenix with her time of 57.82 in 17th overall. Meagan Henderson with 13th overall for the maroon and gold in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.67.

Paige King ran a 4:47.41 in the 1,500-meters while senior Corey Weiss clocked a time of 4:51.56. Weiss also had a time of 18:34.66 in the 5,000-meters.

Barthelmes threw a 161′ 7″ (49.25m) in the hammer throw, finishing 11th overall. Melody Burke had a leap of 17′ 8″ (5.38m) in the long jump for the Phoenix.

The second and final day of the 49er Classic concludes tomorrow, March 17, with events beginning at 10 a.m.
