College Baseball Final: Randolph-Macon 17, Guilford 3

ASHLAND, Va. — Cole Migliorini and Ryan Duphorn both collected four hits as Randolph-Macon College defeated visiting Guilford College, 17-3, on Sunday afternoon.

With the win–and the sweep of the two-game series– the Yellow Jackets improved to 12-2 and 4-0 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play. The Quakers dropped to 9-8-1 and 1-3 in league action.

GC scored two unearned runs in the fourth inning to cut the R-MC lead to 3-2. The runs came after Rocco Wilcox doubled down the right-field line to score Giovanni Garcia. Wilcox was later brought around on a Sam Gerald single to centerfield. Gerald went 3-4 with two RBI and Wilcox was 2-4 with a run and one RBI to pace Quaker hitters.

Randolph-Macon, however, countered with a pair of tallies in the bottom of the inning. In the fifth frame, the Yellow Jackets added three more runs and chased GC starter Mitchell Stumpo. Stumpo (1-3) took the loss and allowed six hits, seven runs (four earned).

The visitors garnered a single run in the sixth inning after Gerald singled through the right side to score Trevor Denton.

An inning later, R-MC broke the game open with nine runs. Migliorini homered to right centerfield to lead off the frame. Duphorn later added an RBI double. The duo both drove in three runs for the Yellow Jackets. Teammate Joseph Tuzzolo added two hits, including one double

Nick Roth (3-0) started, pitched six innings, and earned the win for Randolph-Macon. He allowed three runs (one earned) struck out eight Quakers and walked no batters.

Guilford hosts Tufts University on Monday. Game time is 3 p.m. at McBane Field.
