GREENSBORO, N.C. – Kara Whitson tallied six goals and two assists as the Greensboro College women’s lacrosse team routed the Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan Sunday, 24-5.

Whitson scored her first two goals of the game in the first two minutes to give Greensboro a two-goal lead before the Bishops got on the board for the first time.

Madison Blashaw then found the back of the net to extend the Pride lead back out to two.

Following the Blashaw goal, Whitson struck once again, to make the score 4-1 before Greensboro outscored the Bishops 12-3 over the final 23 minutes of the half to take a 16-4 lead into the break. Blashaw and Ritchey combined for five goals and five assists during the run, while Laine Walston, Peyton Joyce and Cheyenne Petrillo-Lavier had two goals apiece.

After taking the 12-goal lead into the second half, Greensboro outscored the Bishops 8-1 over the final 30 minutes of action to secure the 19-goal victory. Whitson, Murphy Davis and Ritchey each had two goals in the half, while Mackenzie Flemmons and Stefania Robba had one goal.

“Awesome game today,” Head Coach Jena Miller said. “Every single person played and did what I expected them to do. It was a great team win all the way around.

“We needed this game to bounce back from the last one. Now we need to get ready and focused for Guilford.”

Ritchey finished with a game-high 11 draw controls, while Joyce possessed 10. Stephanie Carr made six saves in goal for Greensboro to record the win.

The Pride women will return to action at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday when they host the Quakers of Guilford College. For more information on Greensboro College women’s lacrosse, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
