GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College women’s lacrosse team fell to the Quakers of Guilford College Wednesday, 16-14.

The Pride struck first as Peyton Joyce found Natalie Ritchey for a goal in the first seven minutes of play.

Greensboro quickly put up two more goals in less than two minutes. Madison Blashaw and Laine Walston scored one goal apiece.

The Quakers refused to buckle under the three-goal deficit as they quickly answered back with two goals of their own.

As the Pride held onto a 3-2 lead, Kara Whitson and Walston put up a pair of goals for Greensboro to extend the lead to 5-2

Greensboro and Guilford each put up one more goal before the Quakers scored three consecutive goals to take their first lead of the game at 6-5.

With less than one minute in the first half, Walston and Joyce scored one goal apiece to go into the half with a 7-6 lead.

Offense on both sides stayed hot as the score became tied four more times before Guilford put up three consecutive goals to hold onto a 15-14 lead.

The Pride fought to keep possession of the ball, but the Quakers got the ball back and scored to secure the two-goal victory.

“Today’s game was a tough one and we knew that going into it, but we came out fighting and playing at our level of lacrosse,” Coach Jena Miller said.

“We obviously did not finish how we wanted, but we can’t hang our heads because we fought the entire game.”

Walston finished the day with a game-high five goals and six points. Although Stephanie Carr was credited with the loss in the goal, she recorded a game-high 11 saves.

The Pride return to the field on Saturday when they celebrate senior day against the Spirits of Salem College at 4 p.m. For more information on Greensboro College women’s lacrosse, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
