Elon Track and Field to Compete at Raleigh Relays

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University women’s track and field team will travel to the Raleigh Relays for its third outdoor meet of the season this weekend, March 30-31, on the campus of NC State. Events are scheduled to begin on Friday morning, March 30, at 9:45 a.m. at the Paul Derr Track and Field Facility.

Inside the Meet: Raleigh Relays
One of the biggest track meets on the East Coast, the Raleigh Relays welcomes over 120 NCAA programs as well as professional athletes and high school competitors. The Phoenix is scheduled to have 28 of its athletes compete at the meet this weekend.

Last Time Out
The Phoenix last competed at the Winthrop Adidas Invitational last weekend, March 23-24. On the first day of the meet last Friday, Elon had three members of its squad set new personal-records then had three finishers in the top four of the discus throw on the last day on Saturday.

The Phoenix nearly swept the podium in the discus throw with Bre’anna Warren taking medalist honors with her throw of 163′ 3″ (49.75m). Bryanna Hames was the runner-up with her mark of 152′ 11.25″ (46.61m) while fellow teammate Skylar Barthelmes was fourth with her mark of 143′ 7.50″ (43.77m).

In the hammer throw, Barthelmes moved to third on the program’s all-time list in the event as the Dartmouth, Mass., native established a new personal-best. Barthelmes had a toss of 170′ 10″ (52.06m) and was fourth overall. Warren joined Barthelmes in the top-five of the Phoenix’s performance list in the hammer throw as the Greensboro, N.C., native threw a personal-record mark of 166’8.75″ (50.81m). She finished sixth in the event.

Melody Burke set her new personal-best mark in the long jump as the Concord, Va., native had a leap of 18′ 3″ (5.56m). That jump was good for fifth overall as the Phoenix’s top finisher in the event. Warren was the runner-up and the top collegiate finisher in the shot put with a throw of 47’9.25″ (14.56m).

After posting the fastest time in the 400-meter prelims, Katie Arbogast was the runner-up in the finals of the race with her new personal-record of 56.57.

Elon Prelims
• After her performance last weekend, Warren was tabbed as the Colonial Athletic Association’s Women’s Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday, March 27. The senior currently holds the best marks in the league in the discus throw and is third in the CAA in the shot put with her throw of 48′ 4.75″ (14.75m).
• Elon has 10 athletes and two relay teams sitting in the top-three of events on the CAA’s outdoor performance list. Two of those athletes, Warren in the discus and Rachael Wesolowski in the 10,000-meters, hold the top spot of their respective events.
• The Phoenix’s 4×400-meter relay team also holds the fastest-time so far in the CAA with its 3:54.28 set at the 49er Classic.
• Six Phoenix athletes currently sit in the top-48 on the NCAA East Preliminaries list.
• Select members of the Phoenix distance squad will make their 2018 outdoor season debuts this weekend. Brigid Brennan, Melissa Anastasakis, Coralea Geraniotis, and Emily Smith are scheduled to compete for the Phoenix after sitting out the previous two meets.
• Three individual outdoor school records are currently being held by active Phoenix athletes. Hames holds the school marks in both the discus and shot put while fellow senior Emily Dixon sits atop the Phoenix’s heptathlon performance list.
