Elon’s Geraniotis and Hames Receive CAA Women’s Track & Field Weekly Honors

RICHMOND, Va. – Junior Coralea Geraniotis and senior Bryanna Hames of the Elon University women’s track and field team were honored by the Colonial Athletic Association on Tuesday, April 3, with the pair being named the league’s Track Athlete and Field Athlete of the Week, respectively.

Geraniotis set a new school-record in the 5,000-meters last Friday, March 30, at the Raleigh Relays. The Orleans, Mass., native clocked a time of 16:29.68 in the race – a new 18-second personal-record – and broke Allyson Oram’s ’14 previous program-record. She would finish 23rd overall in the competitive field.

Hames also set a new personal-record as the Charlotte, N.C., native broke her own outdoor school-record in the shot put. She had a heave of 51′ 1.5″ (15.58m) and finished as the runner-up in the event. Hames followed with a season-best throw in the discus with her mark of 160′ 10″ (49.03m) and finished fifth overall. She shared the league’s track honors this week with William & Mary’s Leia Mistowski.

Both athletes sit in the top-48 on the NCAA East Preliminaries list in their respective events with Geraniotis at 23rd in the 5,000-meters and Hames currently 13th in the shot put. Geraniotis’ time is tops in the CAA while Hames’ mark is second in the league.

The Phoenix returns to competition this weekend at the VertKlasse Meeting at High Point. The two-day meet is set to begin on Friday, April 6.
