Box Score | Play-by-Play

In the win, Elon’s fourth straight road victory, Garrett Stonehouse, Ryne Ogren and Joe Satterfield all had three-hit performances. Stonehouse scored four times and drove in a pair, while Ogren drove in three runs for the Phoenix (17-12).

In a predetermined staff day, starter Owen Lorenz (3-2) was awarded the win. Lorenz allowed five runs on four hits in 2.0 innings.

High Point (14-14) got two home runs and five RBI from Carson Jackson.

Jordan Sergent (1-2) took the loss after giving up six runs (four earned) in an inning of work.

How It Happened: With one out in the top of the first, Elon got three straight singles, the last from Satterfield which scored Stonehouse. Liam O’Regan then drove one off the fence in right for a two-RBI double and headed to third on a poor throw in from the outfield. A James Venuto sacrifice fly plated O’Regan as the Phoenix plated four runs in its first at bat.

The Panthers also scored multiple runs in the opening frame. Austen Zente led off with a double and scored on Hunter Lee’s one-out single to right. Jackson then hit the first of his two homers to make it a 4-3 game.

Elon pushed the lead to 8-3 in the second. The inning began with back-to-back walks to Shawn Blake and Mike Borucki. Zach Evers’ attempted sacrifice bunt was misplayed and allowed Elon the Phoenix to load the bases. Stonehouse followed with a single up the middle to drive home a pair. A wild pitch allowed the third run of the inning to cross the plate before the final marker came in on Ogren’s sacrifice fly.

High Point made another push in the third thanks to a second three-run inning. This time, all three came on a Jackson homer.

The Panthers would cut their deficit to 8-7 when Zente led off the fifth with a homer, but Elon pushed across a pair in the top of the sixth to extend the lead to 10-7.

After High Point got one in the last of the sixth, both teams scored once in the seventh before the Phoenix scored one on a Satterfield single and another on a bases-loaded walk to Blake in the eighth to put the game away.

Notes: Satterfield has reached safely in 19 straight contests… The Phoenix had at least one hit in eight of its nine at bats… Elon’s four-game road winning streak is the longest for the program since winning four-in-a-row in March of 2012… Elon is now 6-3 on the road this season.

On Deck: Elon returns to CAA action this weekend with a three-game series at Northeastern. Friday’s series opener is set for 2:30 p.m.
