Men’s Golf Advances To Semifinal Round Of Division III Match Play

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College men’s golf team advanced to the semifinal round of the 2018 Division III Match Play Tournament, hosted by Guilford College at the Grandover Resort, by winning their first two matches Saturday.

In the first match of the day, the Pride topped Mt. Saint Joseph University, 2-1-2.

After Luke Grogan and Levi Grogan finished their round all-square, the Lions picked up their lone win as Scott Campbell fell 2&1.

The Pride then closed out the win after Jacob Neal tallied a 2&1 victory, while Austin Coble helped secure the win with a huge 3&2 victory.

After defeating the Lions to advance to the quarterfinals, Greensboro defeated the defending national champions from Whittenburg University, 3-2.

Campbell rebounded from his first round defeat to his Tigers opponent, 6&5,

Levi Grogan secured a 4&2 win, while Neal moved to 2-0 in the event with a 3&2 victory.

“We had a great first day here at the match play tournament,” Head Coach Jim Cantamessa said. “We had a true team performance as everyone contributed and Austin (Coble) came up big for us in the first match with a big win.

“After winning our first match, it was another great team effort against the defending national champions. We need to put together good rounds again tomorrow to win the event.”
