College Men’s Basketball News – Guilford’s Curry Lands Second Team All-State Recognition

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – Guilford College junior forward Marcus Curry (Greensboro, N.C./Northern Guilford (Bridgewater)) was named to the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association’s (NCCSIA) Men’s Basketball College Division All-State Team Tuesday. Curry, a second-team honoree, received the award for the first time in his career. Guilford has 13 all-state selections since the award’s founding.

The all-star units are comprised of basketball student-athletes from North Carolina’s NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA institutions. The state’s sports information directors nominated student-athletes for the teams, which were selected by NCCSIA members. NCCSIA was founded in 2002 and its first all-state basketball teams were released in 2005.

In February, Curry was named to First Team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) after leading the Quakers in scoring (16.2 ppg.) and field-goal shooting (53.3%). He also averaged 6.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.0 steals per game. Curry finished the season ranked fourth among ODAC scoring leaders. He scored a career-high 31 points in the season opener, a 98-88 victory over Greensboro College. It was one of his 23 contests this season with 10 or more points.

Head coach Tom Palombo could return Curry and as many as 18 other Quakers next year as they look to improve on this season’s 15-12 record.
