Background Notes on Gracen Staunton(Northwest Guilford Softball) now in running for Female Athlete of the Year at Wilkes University

Gracen Staunton:
Gracen Staunton (Kernersville, NC/Northwest Guilford HS) has been named the MAC Freedom Player of the Week in softball, as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.

Staunton collected a pair of complete-game victories with a 0.99 ERA. Staunton allowed just two runs and 12 hits over 14.1 innings of work, while striking out six and allow just one walk.

She earned a complete-game 2-1 victory over Marywood allowing just five hits and striking out four. After a first-inning run was allowed, Staunton pitched six-straight scoreless innings. In a 4-1 complete-game win over King’s, Staunton pitched six scoreless innings and struck out one batter.

Welker’s Home Runs, Staunton’s Pitching Help Wilkes Softball to Split with King’s

EDWARDSVILLEGracen Staunton (Kernersville, NC/Northwest Guilford) tossed a complete-game and Haley Welker (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) hit a two-run home run in each game as the Wilkes University softball team split its Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) doubleheader with King’s College on Saturday afternoon, taking game one 4-1 before dropping the second game 14-2.

Staunton improved to 7-1 in the circle with the victory, giving up just the lone run on seven hits with one walk and one strikeout.

Welker and Staunton each finished the game 2-for-3 with one run scored, and Welker adding three RBI’s.

SCRANTON, PA – Sarah Gibson (Chico, CA/Pleasant Valley) hit the go-ahead home run and Gracen Staunton (Kernersville, NC/Northwest Guilford) controlled the Marywood University bats in a 2-1 game one victory of a non-conference doubleheader Thursday for the Wilkes University softball team. Haley Welker (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) and Christina Gambino (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) hit two-run home runs and Celine Podlesney (Hazle Twp., PA/Hazleton) was strong in the circle in an 8-1 game two win at Pacers Field.

MARCH 24
Staunton (4-1) went all nine innings allowing two runs on three hits and she struck out a season-high eight. The Wilkes offense racked up 12 hits including a 3-for-5 effort from Gambino. Gibson went 2-for-3 with a walk and Jordyn Kondras (Willow Street, PA/Lampeter-Strasburg), Britny Jumalon (Torrance, CA/Torrance), Podlesney, Caitlin Brown (Glen Cove, NY/Glen Cove), Staunton, Haley Welker (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth), and Cogswell all added one hit apiece.
