The Quakers are now 15-15-1 and 6-9 in ODAC games. The Generals moved to 10-18 and 3-11 in conference action.
In game one, GC built a 5-1 lead heading to the bottom of the eighth inning. W&L then plated two runs in the eighth and tacked on three more in the ninth to secure the victory.
Trevor Denton started for GC. He pitched seven innings and allowed one run and seven hits. Josh Shepherd (0-1) finished the game and took the loss. He pitched two-thirds of an inning and allowed two runs.
Six W&L pitchers took the mound for the home team. Andrew Earvolino (1-1) got just one out–the Quakers’ final batter–and secured the win.
Guilford collected 12 hits to 10 for the Generals. Rocco Wilcox was 3-5 with a double, one run, a stolen base and two RBI. Shepherd had one double, a single and a stolen base. Sam Gerald had two base hits in the contest.
For W&L, Zach Lowenberg stroked two doubles, and Ryan Monson contributed two base hits.
In game two, GC held a 9-5 lead after 7 1/2 innings. The Generals rallied again but came up short in the 9-8 final. After giving up two runs and with the tying runner on base, Zack Dinkins got Paul Diven to fly out to end the game. Dinkins earned his first save of the season.
Mitchell Stumpo (3-4) started for Guilford and earned the victory. He allowed six runs and 11 hits in eight innings. W&L used five pitchers. Kenneth Hartzfield (1-1) took the defeat for the home team.
The Generals outhit Guilford, 14-10. Austin Crane and Matt Whitely each had three hits for W&L. Robey Smalley had two doubles in four at-bats for WLU.
For the Quakers, Will LaCount was 3-5 with two doubles and five RBI. Logan Shortt and Gerald both added two hits for GC.
Guilford plays at Piedmont International University on Tuesday. The doubleheader begins at 4 p.m. at Mando Field in Mocksville, N.C.
