FARMVILLE, Va. — The No. 18/19 High Point University women’s lacrosse team defeated Longwood, 22-2, Saturday (April 21) to finish the Big South regular season undefeated and claim its 13th consecutive win.
With the win, the Panthers (14-2, 7-0 Big South) clinched sole possession of the Big South regular season title. HPU, who has won 13 games in a row and 30 of its last 33, receives a bye in the Big South Tournament and will host the conference semifinals and finals May 4-6 at Vert Stadium.
Longwood (7-9, 2-5 Big South) scored the first goal, but the Panthers the next six to break open the game. HPU had seven different goal scorers on its first seven goals and ended with 11 different scorers.
“I’m really proud of the way this group finished regular-season play today on the road,” HPU head coach Lyndsey Boswell said. “We had the opportunity to see several contributors come off the bench and execute the game plan as one unit. Everyday we are excited to get better and continue learning, and that’s what we will do this week heading into Hofstra on Thursday.”
Junior Maggie Williams (two goals, four assists) and sophomore Ashley Britton (four goals, two assists) led the Panthers with six points apiece. Senior Brooke Stevens and freshman Nicole Push each had three goals and an assist, while junior Samantha Herman added a hat trick and nine draw controls.
With nine draws today, Herman broke the single-season school record for draw controls with 63. The previous record was 62, set by Britton in 2017.
Freshman Kaely Kyle had two goals, while the Panthers also received goals from seniors Erin Ilchuk, Erica Perrotta and Haley Roberts, juniors Allie Little and Valerie Pelling.
Sophomore Jill Rall and freshman Sarah Zeto each made two saves in goal for the Panthers.
High Point lead in draw controls, 21-4, and in shots, 47-7.
Up next, the Panthers travel to Long Island on Thursday (April 26) to face Hofstra at 7 p.m.
