Elon Phoenix Trio Named 2018 CAA Women’s Lacrosse Honorees

RICHMOND, Va. – Elon University women’s lacrosse placed one student-athlete on each of the All-CAA teams released Thursday morning, May 3, with Stephanie Asher taking First Team honors, Alexis Zadjura earning a Second Team nod and Quinn Daly garnering a spot on the All-Rookie Team.

Asher has now been tabbed a First Team All-CAA honoree for the third-straight season with Zadjura picking up Second Team All-CAA for the third consecutive campaign. Daly’s CAA All-Rookie Team spot marks the first-ever honor for the freshman from Ridgewood, N.J.

This season, Asher leads Elon in goals (38), assists (8), points (46) and draw controls (70). With 38 goals, Asher has tied her own mark for fourth-most in a campaign in program history and her 46 points rank tie for fourth with Sloane Kessler and Molly Garrigan. A Tewaaraton Trophy Watch List honoree for the second-straight season, Asher’s 5.0 draw controls per game leads the CAA and her total of 70 is the third-most in the conference behind Haley Warden (76) of James Madison and Becky Gohsler (75) of Delaware, who both played in 17 games apiece. With 38 goals on the season, that checks in as the fourth-most in the CAA. Entering postseason play, Asher’s goal total brings her career tally to 178, which is the 11th-most in the nation among active players.

Zadjura has started all 67 games as a member of the program and has career totals of 110 ground balls with 94 draw controls and 68 caused turnovers. With the 110 ground balls, she became the first field player in program history to hit triple digits in the category and has the second-most in school history behind only 2017 graduate Rachel Ramirez. In addition to her ground ball total, Zadjura also stands second in program history for draw controls and caused turnovers. This season, the senior from Woodstock, Md., has 22 ground balls to place third on the team, 19 caused turnovers to tie Shannon Horan for the top spot on the squad and 17 draw controls to rank third.

Having played in all 14 games as a rookie, Daly has tallied six goals to go with an assist for seven points. Throughout the season, she also has 12 ground balls to tie for the sixth-most on the team and has nine caused turnovers to place fourth on the squad. After a slow start with just one point – a goal at Notre Dame on Feb. 25 – in Elon’s first six contests, Daly tallied points in six of the team’s final eight games with five goals in five different games to go with an assist against Virginia Tech. Before going on her point streak down the stretch, Daly had two ground balls in four consecutive games against Notre Dame, High Point, Stanford and North Carolina.

Kristen Gaudian of James Madison was named the league’s Player of the Year while JMU’s Haley Warden and Towson’s Olivia Conti picked up Defensive Co-Players of the Year. Drexel’s Colleen Grady picked up Rookie of the Year and Shelley Klaes-Bawcombe, the head coach of the Dukes, was named Coach of the Year.
