High Point Baseball “Name the Team” contest update:900 Entries/1,800 names

“NAME YOUR TEAM” CONTEST CONCLUDES THIS WEEK HIGH POINT BASEBALL COMPELLED TO OFFER FINAL TIPS

High Point, NC – To date over 900 entries representing upwards of 1,800 names have been suggested for the name of the new High Point Baseball team that will commence play in the Atlantic League in 2019. Time is running out as fans only have until this Thursday, May 31st, 2018 at 11:59PM to submit as many names as they would like. As a result, High Point Baseball felt compelled to offer final tips for fans that would like to enter online at www.highpointbaseball.com.

Tip #1 Close To Home – Ideally the name would tie into to or be indigenous to High Point and or the Triad.

Tip #2 Be Original – Do not submit potential team names that are copycats or similar to any existing professional sport teams.

Tip #3 Animals Rule – Nearly 41% of minor league baseball teams are named after animals whether real, extinct or imagined.

Tip #4 Keep It Short & Sweet – The average number of letters in a minor league baseball team name is 7.7 although 31% of minor league baseball team nicknames are two words.

Tip #5 Team Names Need Nicknames – Often in addition to an official team name nicknames naturally evolve. In general, nicknames are shorter then given names and become secondary logos.

On Thursday, June 7th at 6:00PM at the construction site on the corner or North Elm Street and Gatewood Avenue in downtown High Point the first of five BB&T Point Progress Parties (see logo embedded below) will take place. This free community wide celebration will reveal both the Top Nine (9) Names and the Non-Top Nine (9) Names. Nine (9) lucky fans who submitted one of the final Top Nine (9) Names will be part of the spectacle as they will be invited on stage and “open the envelope” to reveal their name much like a Hollywood awards show. On Thursday, June 14th, the list will be reduced to the Serious Six (6) Names based upon online fan voting during the previous week. On Thursday, June 21st, the list will be reduced to the Big & Final Three (3) Names based upon online fan voting during the previous week. On Thursday, June 28th, the final name will be announced.

Each BB&T Point Progress Party will have a theme, as well as, tours to a specific spot on the construction site. Tours will commence at 6:30PM and 7:15PM on Thursday, June 7th and will lead fans to the future home dugout where you can take as many photos as you would like. If you take the tour and then post a photo on your favorite social media platform, you will be eligible for a free drink (while supplies last) at the BB&T Point Progress Party that will be in full swing from 6:00PM to 8:00PM. The additional dates for the BB&T Point Progress Parties are July 12th, August 2nd, September 6th and October 4th. The themes and tour destinations for those BB&T Point Progress Parties will be announced closer to each party date.
