Three tied atop leaderboard at Sedgefield
Osborne, Vilips and Taylor II lead at 3-under-par 67
GREENSBORO, N.C. – After the first round of the Wyndham Invitational presented by BB&T, three players are tied for the lead at 3-under-par 67 at Sedgefield Country Club’s Pete Dye Course. Charles Osborne, Karl Vilips and Troy Taylor II are tied atop the leaderboard and share the first-round lead.
The Wyndham Invitational presented by BB&T enters its 17th year in Greensboro, North Carolina, with 72 of the top boys in the country. Seventy-eight alumni of the Invitational have gone on to compete on the PGA TOUR, including Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler and Patrick Reed, along with past champions Justin Thomas and Brian Harman.
Osborne, a future Southern Methodist University Mustang, took the early clubhouse lead with four birdies and a bogey. Osborne, out of Reno, Nevada, is currently No. 51 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings. Australian Karl Vilips, the top-ranked player in the Rolex AJGA Rankings, carded the only bogey-free round on the course. The Stanford verbal commit, out of Wesley Chapel, Florida, tallied birdies on Nos. 3, 13 and 15. Taylor II, an 18-year-old and future Michigan State Spartan, carded three back-nine birdies to tie the lead. The No. 43 player in the Rolex AJGA Rankings is originally from Westerville, Ohio, and has placed top three in back-to-back AJGA tournaments.
Five players sit tied for fourth at 2-under-par 68 following the first round, including: Austin Greaser of Vandalia, Ohio; Trey Davis of Plumas Lake, California; Jason Duff of Elkton, Florida; Trey Bosco of Austin, Texas; and Maxwell Moldovan of Uniontown, Ohio.
Second-round tee times will run from 7 a.m. ET to 10:50 a.m. ET on Wednesday, June 13.
